In contrast to the 1stXi, the 2nds got their season off to a promising start with wins in 3 of their 6 scheduled games.
The Stafford Trophy games saw 2 wins out of 3 starting with a 35 run victory at Westhoughton where we racked up 207-8 thanks to 50 from DC and knocks of 20+ from Tom Greg, Lucky and Will Berry. The returning Andy Johnson then took 3/44 to help restrict the reply to 172 with Daz, Millsy & Neil taking 2 each. The following week we made 207-9 against Daisy Hill led by an unbeaten 60 from Alex and DC chipping in again with 38. Will Berry then enjoyed himself against his old club taking 5/9 as they collapsed to just 39 all out with 2 each for AJ and Millsy. Somehow we managed the final qualifier despite being bowled out for just 96 at Golborne (Ryan 36). Ryan then took 5/25 and Will 3/33 but with the help of 48 wides we lost by 2 wickets!
The Birtwistle Cup game against Farnworth Social Circle saw a hefty defeat by 117 runs after FSC ran up 253-5 in their overs. Only a lower order flourish from Lucky (43) and Neil (31) helped us stumble up as high as 136 in reply.
The league programme got off to a damp start with the match at Darcy Lever rained off, but the following week we got away to a winning start with a 47 run win at Golborne in a game marred by a serious knee injury for Tom G on his way to making 32. AJ with 43, Will (33) and Harry (32) helped us post 205-9 then a spell of 5/39 from Neil restricted the home team to 168 to secure the win.
So the first month of the season saw 6 games 3 wins, 2 losses and a cancellation - not a bad start & hopefully something to build on.
